Apart from the Core Faculty, the BTS stipends can be supervised by further professors from the three involved institutions. Moreover, supervisors from further institutions and universities can act as second supervisors. These very much fit the research scope of the BTS. First supervisors are requested from the selection committee during the process of evaluation. Students can make respective indications in their applications. Second supervisors are assigned by the stipends themselves, after having started the PhD programme. Current associated supervisors are:
- Jörg Faust (Political Scientist, Head of Department III: Governance, Statehood and Security at the German Development Institute)
- Cilja Harders (Professor for Middle Eastern and North African Politics, Freie Universität Berlin)
- Andrea Liese (Professor of International Organizations and Public Policy, University of Potsdam)
