About BTS
PhD Candidates
The BTS Network

(cc) Jeff Bauche

At BTS we constantly strive to provide our PhD candidates with a positive working environment to help them successfully pursue their research. To this end, one of our main priorities is the further development of a strong network between BTS and our partner institutions.

Our strategic partnerships aim to integrate each PhD candidate within the greater Berlin research community. BTS works with many illustrious graduate schools in the city; cooperation is particularly close with the Dahlem Research School (DRS), and our PhD candidates benefit enormously from the DRS Welcome Center, which provides information and support to new doctoral candidates. One of the main strategic goals is to organise workshops and co-host events with these institutions on contemporary issues in the social sciences.

During their research, PhD candidates are associated with the research centres and units at the three cooperating institutions. Among others, the Research Centre "Governance in Areas of Limited Statehood" and the DFG-Research College "The Tranformative Power of Europe" are closely related to our research areas.

Since 2009, BTS has been working closely with the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. To broaden the international perspectives and networks of our PhD students, we intend to establish further ties with universities inside and outside of Europe.
