Since its founding in 2008, the Berlin Graduate School for Transnational Studies (BTS) has quickly established itself as a premier destination for PhD studies in Europe, attracting graduates from distinguished institutions such as Oxford, Harvard, Stanford, Cambridge, and the London School of Economics . In 2012 we received over 300 applications – more than eighty per cent of them from outside Germany. Once admitted as a PhD candidate, you will join a vibrant community of highly motivated and successful scholars from around the world. The cultural and academic diversity of BTS is one of our greatest strengths.
Why we suceed
BTS is a relatively young institution, but we are built on some of the strongest scholarship in Europe. As a cooperative project of three outstanding academic institutes and institutions, BTS provides young researchers with an excellent and inclusive working environment for their studies and research. Our faculty consists of renowned scholars working at the forefront of their respective fields, including
• political science • economics • history • law • sociology
Our PhD candidates have access to a rich and diverse world of research and scholarship through our vital network of strategic and cooperative partnerships. International partners enhance the BTS experience by sharing their unique expertise and co-hosting workshops on current issues and research methods, making studies at BTS even more dynamic. And to make sure our students don’t miss any opportunities, BTS offers special financial support for research and conference travel in addition to regular scholarships.
Benefits of Berlin
The intellectual excitement of studying at BTS is made even more inspiring by living in Berlin, one of the world’s most energetic and fascinating cities. As Germany's capital, Berlin is a global of culture, politics, media, and academic innovation. And the costs of living and studying here are exceptionally low compared to other major world cities. The value – both academic and financial – of choosing BTS is unquestionable.
